Jesus Christ - My Savior, My Identity, My Testimony
My grandmother was my Sunday school teacher, and I learned about the God of the Bible at a very young age. Small seeds of faith were planted in my heart, but I didn't fully understand.
One day in my High School years, my brother came home from his friend's house telling us (my mother, my sister and I) about Jesus Christ and salvation. We ended up going to church for the first time in years and heard the gospel message that God the Father sent His Only Begotten Son to earth through a virgin birth, He lived a perfect life and chose to die on the cross, pouring out His precious blood - taking the punishment for all our sin and rose again by the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ conquered sin and death so that we could be forgiven, reconciled to God, and be adopted into the family of Christ.
"For God so loved the world, that gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16).
Someone at the church lead me in "the sinner's prayer" and I tried to be good from then onward. I thought that being a Christian was following a set of moral rules, going to church, avoid doing “bad things.” Looking back now, I don't think I truly understood the gospel, and I was trying to be "a good Christian" by my own effort, not fully surrendering to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. In my adult years, I felt lost and looked for love and approval everywhere except God. I found it so hard to be "good" that I became fake; I lied to make myself look better than I was, and I tried to fit in with my church-going family and friends. Overtime, I lied so much and made so many bad decisions that I didn't recognize myself anymore. My temper and anger issues, alcohol dependance, using and hurting people, broken relationships, sleeping around, divorce, dabbling in drugs just to feel a tiny bit of calm in the midst of my internal chaos. At the core of my being, I just wanted peace, security and to be loved. I felt so far from God, and I knew my life was a mess of my own making and I couldn't fix any of it.
September of 2025, I finally got to the end of myself. I had been listening to sermons online and I felt like I was hearing the gospel of Jesus for the first time, like really understanding it. That Jesus already knew all the wrong I’ve ever done and will ever do in this life because we all fall short of the glory of God, but He still thought of me while He hung on the cross. And when He cried out “It is finished,” He paid for ALL of my sins, not just my past but my present and future. When we place our faith and trust in Him, we receive HIS righteousness and we are covered by His grace, we are given His Holy Spirit who works in us to point us back to Jesus every single day. I didn’t need to “try harder” I needed a relationship with Jesus; He is the treasure, He is life and life abundantly. So in that moment I was tired, broken, and empty and I fell to my knees and cried out to God in repentance. I was ready to surrender my life fully to the Lordship of Jesus. Overwhelmed by His love and realizing that while I turned my back on God, He never stopped pursuing me. I told the Lord, "Take my life, it's Yours. I don’t care what happens, I just want You." I woke up the next day, and I knew something was different, I had joy and forgiveness, and I had found the love of my life - Jesus Christ my Savior.
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
"And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience - among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the flesh and the mind, and were by nature the children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ - by grace you have been saved - and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2: 1 - 10)
The invitation is open to everyone. Jesus made you, He loves you and He shed His holy, precious blood to have a relationship with you.
